Andrew Viva Marama Bio
I am a Managing Director and Majority Shareholder at MD Initiative Limited, a leading architectural and project management firm in Malawi. With over 30 years of experience in the building industry, I hold a Master of Science in Architecture, obtained in 1991 and a Diploma in Architecture from Alma-Ata Institute of Architects and Civil Construction/Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering. I am also a registered and licensed architect in Tanzania and Malawi, and an Associate of the American Institute of Architects.
My core competencies include project planning, coordination, and management, architectural design and supervision, contract management, and capacity building. I have successfully delivered a wide range of urban and rural projects, such as banks, office blocks, hotels, shopping malls, schools, hospitals, mental health facilities, factories, parliaments, airports, data centers, breweries, and recreational facilities, in various countries, including the former USSR, Kazakhstan, Tanzania, Malawi, and South Africa.
As a visionary and innovative leader, I have been involved in introducing and promoting sustainable and appropriate technologies, such as stabilized soil blocks and cement sand blocks, in Malawi since 1995. I have also facilitated and engineered the development of architectural training, education, and practice in Malawi, as a past president of the Malawi Institute of Architects and a past council member of the Africa Union of Architects. My mission is to serve the communities at the marketplace with love, wisdom, ideas, skills, and technologies of the global community.
